Studio Practice

Davies’ studio practice is multi-disciplinary, centred on deep observation, presence and intentional engagement with place.

‘My practice is a multi-disciplinary exploration into the subjective relationship between my internal landscape and the external world, spanning drawing, printmaking, lens-based media, writing, sound, live art, and performance.

Through sound, lens-based media, and mark-making, my research blends mythogeography, psychogeography, sense of place, and place attachment. I document my relationship with significant places to map the unseen connections that bind us to a location, creating an emotional cartography of how spaces shape internal landscapes and vice versa.

Layering is an essential structural and conceptual language of my work, using elements to communicate the complexity of experience. In drawings and prints, this appears as abstract gestural marks that describe how a place sounds. In film and sound, elements communicate the activities within a place, whether subtle or more overt, and my diaries fuse photography with narration on chronological events, factual information, and reflective analysis.

Methodologically, I am cultivating a personal archive, an aesthetic and sociological repository of images, sounds, and fragments, that forms a living archive of environments and my experiences within them. These collected documents resonate with psychological truth, acting as keys to an internal dialogue. This layered documentation bridges raw experience and cultural documentation, highlighting the ephemeral nature of existence and transforming engagements with place into reflections on the human condition.

In the summer of 2026, my website was hacked and everything was gone. I am slowly rebuilding it.  The website will be gradually updated over the coming months.
